There is something truly magical about a child and a book. The weight of it in tiny hands. The turning of pages. The way a story can transport a child to another world, spark a belly laugh, or quietly open a door to a feeling they didn't yet have words for. At the Fun and Learning Clubhouse, we believe books are one of the greatest gifts you can give a child — at every age, every stage, and every reading level.
Our Books collection spans the full journey from babbling babies to confident young readers, because the love of reading is something that grows with a child when it is nurtured from the very beginning.
Books for Babies and Toddlers: The Seeds of Early Literacy
Long before a child can read a single word, they are already becoming a reader. Every time you snuggle up and read together, your baby is absorbing the rhythm and melody of language, learning that print carries meaning, and building the warm association between books and love that will last a lifetime. This is early emerging literacy — and it begins at birth.
Board books with bold colors, simple images, and repetitive text are perfect for babies and young toddlers. They are designed to be touched, chewed, dropped, and loved hard — because that's exactly what babies do, and that's perfectly okay. Lift-the-flap books, texture books, and books with mirrors delight little ones while building curiosity, cause-and-effect thinking, and early vocabulary. Reading aloud, pointing to pictures, and narrating what you see together plants the seeds of language and literacy that will bloom for years to come.
For Preschoolers: Making Reading an Adventure
As children grow into the preschool years, books become a gateway to imagination, empathy, and the wider world. Picture books with rich illustrations and engaging storylines invite children into the joy of narrative — beginning, middle, end, characters, feelings, and the satisfying resolution of a good story. This is where a love of reading truly takes root.
Predictable and rhyming books at this stage are pure gold for emerging readers. They build phonological awareness — the ability to hear and play with the sounds in words — which is one of the strongest predictors of reading success. When a child finishes your sentence because they've memorized the pattern, they're not just being cute. They're becoming a reader.
For Early Readers: Building Confidence One Page at a Time
Early reader books meet children exactly where they are — simple sentences, familiar vocabulary, and just enough challenge to keep them stretching. The goal at this stage isn't perfection; it's confidence. Every book finished is a victory worth celebrating. Every new word decoded is a superpower unlocked. We carry books that make early readers feel capable and proud, because children who feel like readers become readers.
Books as a Universal Developmental Tool — For Therapists of All Kinds
One of the most beautiful things about books is how naturally they fit into any therapeutic setting. Whether you're an SLP, an OT, a PT, or work across disciplines, a well-chosen book can do so much of the work for you — engaging the child, setting the stage, and opening the door to goals that might otherwise feel like hard work.
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) have long known that shared book reading is one of the richest language experiences available. Books build vocabulary, narrative structure, inferencing, and comprehension. Repetitive texts support early communicators. Wordless picture books invite children to construct their own stories. Books about emotions and social situations support pragmatic language and social understanding. A great book in an SLP's hands is a therapy session waiting to happen.
Occupational Therapists (OTs) can weave books seamlessly into sessions too. Interactive books — lift-the-flap, touch-and-feel, pop-up — engage fine motor skills naturally. A calming story can be a beautiful tool for regulation and transitions. Books about bodies, feelings, and daily routines support the self-awareness and executive functioning skills that OTs nurture every day. Reading time can also be a wonderful opportunity for therapeutic positioning and building the sustained attention that underlies so much of a child's functional performance.
Physical Therapists (PTs) can use books to make challenging positions feel like playtime. Tummy time with a favorite board book transforms a therapeutic necessity into a joyful moment. A story read during a rest break brings calm and connection. Books about movement, animals, and the outdoors invite active engagement and can naturally pair with gross motor activities that keep kids moving and motivated.
Literacy is one of the most uniquely human things we learn.
Of all the remarkable things a child will learn in their lifetime, reading may be the most transformative. It opens every door — to knowledge, to imagination, to empathy, to possibility. The child who falls in love with books early carries that gift with them forever. And it all starts in the simplest, most beautiful way: someone they love, holding a book, and saying “let's read together.”
